The second Exposure Visit of Pameer Public High School and Rabia Balkhi High School was held on March 21th, 2022 at BUITEMS. The students were welcomed warmly and were gathered at the pink hall. There were total 175 students among which 114 were female. The session was formally started with the verses from the Holy Quran. The Introductory video of BUITEMS university was played on the screen before the students. The detailed video was to inform the students about the facilities and resources of the BUITEMS and how they can have an access to the resources and secure admission in the universities of Baluchistan and Pakistan being an Afghan refugee. After watching the video, many refugee students with various legal identities asked the possible ways they could get admission at BUITEMS or any other university of Balochistan.
After the introductory video, a presentation was delivered about the International Center for the Refugee and Migration Studies ICRMS by Ms. Nafisa, Program and Research Assistant ICRMS. The presentation was to brief the students about ICRMS’ previous and current year activities. They were also briefed about ICRMS’ social media networks for updates regarding the upcoming and relevant events/activities for them. The detailed presentation was followed by the remarks of the Dr. Raheela Umer Sumalani, Director ICRMS, regarding the facilitation and assistance, and various activities for the refugees held through ICRMS and where Afghan refugee students can be part of. She told them many success stories to work harder and chase their dreams. She encouraged and showed them the brighter future in educational institutes of Pakistan where they can pursue higher education journey and follow-up their dreams in different departments apart from Medical and Engineering, meanwhile sharing the success stories of the Afghan refugee students in BUITEMS and other universities of Baluchistan. The students also asked questions about the admission procedures. In the end students shared their desire and willingness to get admission in different academic fields and Dr. Raheela wished them all Happy Nowruz.
After the interactive session, the students were taken for the exposure visit of the BUITEMS university. They were taken to the Sports Complex, Fitness Gym, Library, Digital Library, Labs, Laboratories, Youth Development Center, National Incubation Center NIC and Research Center. All the students of the exposure visit were briefed about the sports facilities which they can use, library membership which they can avail and entrepreneurship and skill development opportunities for refugees at NIC. The students were also taken for the visit of ICRMS office. Mr. Hafeez Ullah, Communication officer ICRMS informed the students that they can visit and reach out ICRMS staff any time to be mentored, career counselling, any help related to the getting admission in the Universities or any activities/events of ICRMS. He asked the students to visit ICRMS Website, YouTube channel and Twitter handle to keep updated themselves about the Center.
In the Last Mr. Saad Uddin, Project Manager ICRMS engaged the exposure visit students and the school’s staff on the special day or Nowruz where all of them exchanged Persian and Pashto poetries and got engaged into interactive pleasing debate. The students read poems to celebrate the beautiful Afghan cultural day of the spring season.
