The International Center for Refugee and Migration Studies (ICRMS) held its first exposure visit at Firdowsi High School, Hazara Town, Quetta to BUITEMS, on April 19th, 2024. The session commenced with the recitation of holy verses from the Quran and opening remarks by Dr. Rahila Umar, the Director of ICRMS. Dr. Umar inspired the students by outlining the aims and objectives of the exposure visit and career counseling program designed for refugee students in grades 9 through 12. She emphasized how this visit could assist students in identifying their career paths, selecting appropriate subjects and departments, and exploring higher education opportunities, particularly at BUITEMS and other universities in Balochistan.
Following Dr. Umar’s remarks, video presentations from ICRMS and BUITEMS were played for the students. Mr. Salar Ahmed, Deputy Director of Admissions at BUITEMS, then delivered a detailed presentation on the university’s admission policies and procedures, as well as the available financial aid and scholarship opportunities for Afghan refugees and nationals. Subsequently, Ms. Nafisa provided an in-depth overview of ICRMS’s work since 2017, highlighting available opportunities for students and potential career pathways, followed by a question-and-answer session.
Additionally, Ms. Fouzia Bostan and Mr. Abrar, both refugee students enrolled at BUITEMS, shared their experiences with the students. They discussed their enrollment process, utilization of scholarship opportunities, and their ongoing community development project in Quetta.
After the presentations, the students were taken on an exposure visit to BUITEMS university, where they explored various facilities including labs, libraries, gym, and academic departments. At the conclusion of the visit, certificates were awarded to the students, and shields were presented to the principal and vice-principal of Firdowsi High School.
