Two Day Sports Initiative Empowers Refugee Students 2025

The International Center for Refugee and Migration Studies (ICRMS) organized a two-day sports activity on June 24 and 26, 2025, held at the ICRMS Sports Area as part of its ongoing crash-course program. Designed to promote physical activity, teamwork, and social integration among refugee students, the event aimed to create an inclusive environment where participants could enjoy healthy competition, forge stronger interpersonal bonds, and reap the benefits of recreational sports. This initiative reflects ICRMS’s broader commitment to fostering a joyful, diverse, and empowering space for learners from various cultural backgrounds.

The event featured a futsal match for male students and a badminton tournament for female students. Both sections of the crash-course program participated enthusiastically. In futsal, Section B emerged victorious after a series of exhilarating rounds, showcasing great energy, coordination, and team spirit. In the badminton finals, female players from Section B Sugra and Frida demonstrated exceptional skill, focus, and mutual respect. Around BUITEMS, which offers comprehensive sports facilities—including football and badminton courts this event provided students an opportunity to experience well-supported athletic engagement

Feedback from students was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the chance to build friendships, enhance confidence, and find emotional relief through sport. They particularly appreciated the cultural exchange opportunities these activities enabled. ICRMS staff played a key supportive role, adding to the event’s community spirit. Prof. Dr. Zahid Rauf, Director of ICRMS, and Project Manager Hifsa Ghafoor attended to motivate participants. Prof. Dr. Zahid Rauf presented trophies to the winners and praised the collective effort, underscoring the importance of excellence and holistic development. The event concluded with a group photograph, capturing the camaraderie and team spirit. Overall, the sports activity successfully promoted unity, wellness, and proactive engagement among refugee students, and ICRMS remains committed to organizing similar events that nurture community ties and personal growth.
