The International Center for Refugee and Migration Studies (ICRMS) organized its third Exposure Visit Session on 15th May 2025 for students from School No. 12, Saranan Refugee Camp at Balochistan University of Information Technology and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), Quetta.
Students and school faculty were warmly welcomed at BUITEMS’ Orange Hall by staff members of BUITEMS and ICRMS. The session began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, moderated by Mr. Muhammad Kazim, Liaison Officer at ICRMS. This was followed by a video presentation highlighting ICRMS’s mission, vision, and its work for refugee communities. Mr. Salar Khan, Deputy Director of Admissions and Academics at BUITEMS, delivered an informative session on the university’s admission process, available scholarships, and financial aid options for Afghan refugees and local students. His address provided clarity and motivation to prospective students from the refugee community.
Prof. Dr. Zahid Rauf, Director of ICRMS, then welcomed the visiting students and faculty. In his motivational address, he emphasized BUITEMS’ inclusive and supportive academic environment and encouraged students to aim high in their educational goals. He reiterated BUITEMS’ and ICRMS’s commitment to uplifting marginalized communities through quality education and advocacy.
The students were then guided through various parts of the BUITEMS campus. The exposure tour was facilitated by Mr. Nisar Ahmed, Media and Communication Associate, and Mr. Firdos Khan from ICRMS. The group visited the National Incubation Center (NIC), where they learned about entrepreneurship and startup support systems, with a special focus on programs available for Afghan refugees. At the Main Library, students were introduced to the vast academic resources by the Librarian, including physical and digital materials. The tour concluded at the Sports Complex, where Mr. Nisar Ahmed provided a briefing on the sports facilities and student engagement opportunities at BUITEMS. The exposure visit concluded with lunch for all participants. After a day full of learning and inspiration, the students were safely escorted back to their school.
