MoU and Contract Signature Ceremony with Selected Afghan Interns Under the ICRMS Internship Program

The International Center for Refugee and Migration Studies (ICRMS) held a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and contract signing ceremony for the five Afghan internees selected under the ICRMS Internship Program on August 28, 2024. The orientation session, conducted in the ORIC Conference Room, was attended by representatives from the Health Education Cell, Directorate General Health Services in Balochistan, Balochistan Civil Services Academy BCSA Quetta, QUICK-UP, BUITEMS Administration, and Library. Four internees attended in person, while one joined online.

Mr. Ishaaq moderated the session, which began with verses from the Holy Quran. Following an introduction and opening remarks by Rahila Umer, Director of ICRMS, the session featured a brief presentation about ICRMS by Ms. Nafisa Program and Research Assistant at ICRMS, detailing the profile and selection process of the internees.

Selection Process:
Initially 95 candidates applied through online registration. the selection process included:

Initial Evaluation: Based on applicants’ graduation degrees, resulting in 72 shortlisted candidates (65 male and 7 female).

Knowledge and Skills Test: Conducted in BUITEMS labs, leading to 20 shortlisted candidates (15 male and 5 female).

Interviews: Conducted for 14 candidates (10 male and 4 female), with final selections made based on interviews.

Selected Interns and Deployments:

Ms. Suriya: BBA graduate, skilled in MS Word, PowerPoint, and strong computer skills has been placed at BUITEMS Library. The BUITEMS Library and Digital Library provide access to a wide range of academic resources, support research and learning, and facilitate digital access to databases, journals, and e-books for students and faculty.

Mr. Abdul Baseer: BS in Computer Sciences, skilled in web design and development, proficient in Flutter has been placed at QUICK-UP. QUICK UP is an on-demand delivery service in Quetta that uses a mobile app to connect local businesses, especially women-led enterprises, with customers while creating job opportunities and boosting the local economy.

Mr. Matiullah: D-Pharmacy graduate, proficient in team collaboration, report generation, and leadership has been placed at Health Education Cell, Provincial Health Directorate Balochistan. The Health Education Cell (HEC) in Quetta, Balochistan, focuses on public health education and disease prevention, particularly among marginalized women and children, by raising awareness and promoting preventive healthcare through collaborations with various stakeholders.

Mr. Samiullah: BBA Finance graduate, proficient in computer literacy, freelancing, research, and digital marketing has been placed at Balochistan Civil Services Academy (BCSA), Quetta. Located in Quetta, the Balochistan Civil Services Academy (BCSA) is a leading institution that trains and develops public sector employees in Balochistan through specialized programs, workshops, and seminars.

Ms. Sajjida Abdul Karim: BS in Environmental Sciences, proficient in computer skills, basic Photoshop, debate writing, and computer hardware has been placed at the BUITEMS Admin Section. The BUITEMS Administration section manages university operations, supports academic and non-academic activities, and oversees administrative tasks to ensure smooth functioning.

The session concluded with Dr. Rahila and the placement organizations sharing their expectations and welcoming the refugee interns. Contracts were signed between the interns and ICRMS, and the MoU was finalized between ICRMS and the placement organizations. The event ended with remarks from Dr. Rahila and the presentation of ICRMS hoodies to the interns, followed by refreshments.
