The International Center for Refugee and Migration Studies (ICRMS) held its second career counselling session of the year on 23rd April 2025 at Noor High School, Marriabad.
The session was opened by Mr. Ali Zaidi, the lead career counsellor, who welcomed the students and introduced the objective of the session. To provide students with a deeper understanding of the organizing body, he invited the ICRMS team to introduce the Center and its work.
Ms. Fatima from ICRMS briefed students about the Center’s foundation and mission. She explained that the International Center for Refugee and Migration Studies (ICRMS) was established in 2017 with the support of UNHCR and is housed at BUITEMS, a leading academic institution in Balochistan. She also highlighted the strategic partnership between BUITEMS and UNHCR, which focuses on developing a strong knowledge base on issues related to migration and displacement. Ongoing activities at ICRMS and opportunities available for refugee students, including capacity-building programs and educational resources, were also shared.
Following this introduction, Mr. Zaidi resumed the session and led an interactive and insightful discussion beginning with the fundamental question: “What is a career?” He broke down the concept into key elements such as skills (talent/knowledge), income, and structured professional pathways. Students responded with enthusiasm, engaging actively as the session progressed.
To encourage self-awareness, a personality assessment test was conducted. After completing the test, Mr. Zaidi explained different personality types—Realistic Investigators, Artistic Creatives, and Social Helpers—helping students identify how their unique traits could align with suitable career options. He also introduced them to the Top 10 free online course websites, encouraging students to pursue self-learning opportunities beyond the classroom.
The session continued with Ms. Pashtana, another experienced counsellor, who shared information on various scholarship opportunities available to refugee students. She elaborated on eligibility criteria, the application process, and stressed the importance of academic consistency and determination.
The session concluded with a lively Q&A session, where students asked insightful questions about their future career options. The event ended with refreshments for all participants.
A total of 64 students participated in the session, including 18 male and 46 female students.
