The International Center for Refugee and Migration Studies (ICRMS)-BUITEMS held a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and contract signing ceremony for the ten Afghan refugee internees selected under the ICRMS-BUITEMS Internship Program on May 14, 2025. The session was attended by representatives from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Sub Office Quetta, Drugs & Narcotics Educational Services for Humanity (DANESH), Water, Environment and Sanitation Society (WESS), Innovative Development Organization (IDO), Quick Eats, and five different Directorates of BUITEMS.
The Session was attended by Mr. Haider Zaman, Assistant Protection Officer, UNHCR, Mr. Siraj Uddin Kasi, DANESH, Mr. Saeed Ahmed Shah, WESS, Mr. Shakeel Anwar Khattak, IDO, and Mr. Mohammad Rahim Shah from Quick Eats. From BUITEMS Mr. Irfan Jahangir Additional Director, represented Directorate of Finance, Mr. Mohammad Niaz Kakar, Director of Directorate of Examination, and Mr. Syed Dara Shikoh Amir, Director of Directorate of Communications.
Mr. Muhammad Kazim, Liaison Officer at ICRMS, moderated the session, which began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. Following a welcome and opening remarks by Prof. Dr. Zahid Rauf, Director of ICRMS-BUITEMS, the session featured a brief presentation on the ICRMS Internship Program for Afghan Refugee Graduates by Ms. Bisma Arif. She outlined the profile and selection process of the internees.
This was followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ICRMS-BUITEMS and the UNHCR Implementing Partners, preceded by contract signings between the interns and ICRMS-BUITEMS.
Initially, 35 candidates applied through an online registration form. The applications were evaluated based on the applicants’ graduation degrees and Proof of Registration (PoR) card verification, resulting in 25 shortlisted candidates (20 male and 5 female). ICRMS then conducted a knowledge and skills test at BUITEMS, further shortlisting 13 candidates (11 male and 2 female). As the final step of the selection process, ICRMS conducted interviews with the 13 candidates. The final selection of 10 interns (8 male and 2 female) was made based on their test and interview scores. The session witnessed a total participation of 28 individuals, comprising 23 male and 5 female participants.”

- Muhammad Din: a graduate with a BS in Information Technology, has been successfully placed at the Directorate of Communication (BUITEMS) With his strong background and expertise in IT, he is expected to contribute effectively to the directorate’s digital operations and communication systems. His placement aligns well with the department’s need for technical support in managing digital platforms, streamlining communication tools, and enhancing overall IT infrastructure. This opportunity will also allow him to gain valuable hands-on experience in a professional setting, further developing his skills in the field.
- Muhammad Umar: a BS Computer Science graduate, has been placed at the Directorate of Management Sciences (BUITEMS) as a Media and Marketing Intern. With a solid foundation in computer science, he brings a unique blend of technical knowledge and creative thinking to support the directorate’s media and marketing initiatives. His role involves assisting in the development of digital content, managing social media platforms, and contributing to promotional strategies. This placement provides him with an excellent opportunity to apply his skills in a dynamic environment while gaining practical experience in media, marketing, and communication technologies.
- Abdullah: a graduate with a BS in Economics, has been placed at the Directorate of Finance (BUITEMS) as a Finance Intern. His academic background equips him with a strong understanding of financial principles, economic analysis, and data interpretation. In this role, he will support the directorate in budgeting, financial reporting, and data management tasks. The internship offers him a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public sector financial operations, enhancing his practical skills and preparing him for a future career in finance and economics
- Abdullah: who holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, has been placed at the Taraqee Foundation as an Office Management Intern. Although his academic background is rooted in healthcare, his adaptability and organizational skills make him well-suited for administrative responsibilities. At the foundation, he will assist in coordinating office operations, maintaining records, and supporting day-to-day management tasks. This placement provides him with a platform to broaden his professional experience beyond the pharmaceutical field, contributing to the efficient functioning of a development-oriented organization.
- Mohammad Mustaqeem: a BS Botany graduate, has been placed at DANESH as an Office Management Intern. With a strong academic foundation in the sciences and a keen interest in organizational work, he brings a detail-oriented and disciplined approach to administrative tasks. In his role, he will support office operations, assist in documentation, and help maintain efficient workflows within the organization. This internship offers him the opportunity to develop essential management and coordination skills in a professional setting, expanding his career prospects beyond his academic specialization.
- Najeebullah: a graduate with a BS in Software Engineering, has been placed at Quick Eats as an IT Intern. With a solid background in software development and system analysis, he is well-equipped to support the company’s technological needs. In this role, he will assist with maintaining software systems, troubleshooting technical issues, and contributing to the development of digital solutions aimed at enhancing operational efficiency. - Sahar: a BS Computer Science graduate, has been placed at the Directorate of Examinations (BUITEMS) as an Office Management Intern. Her academic background in technology, combined with strong organizational abilities, makes her a valuable addition to the team. - Rohullah: a BS English graduate has been placed at WESS as a Reporting Intern. His strong command of language and communication skills equip him to contribute effectively to the organization’s reporting and documentation efforts. In this role, he will assist in preparing reports, drafting content, and supporting communication activities. This internship offers Rohullah a valuable opportunity to apply his academic knowledge in a practical setting, enhance his writing and analytical skills, and gain experience in organizational reporting processes.
- Noor Ahmed: a BS Anthropology graduate, has been placed at the Directorate of Student Affairs (BUITEMS) as an Office Management Intern. His background in anthropology provides him with a unique perspective on social dynamics and cultural awareness, which complements his administrative role. In this position, he will assist with office coordination, record keeping, and supporting student-related activities. This internship offers Noor Ahmed the opportunity to develop practical office management skills while contributing to the effective functioning of the student affairs department.
- Amina: a BS graduate in Pharmacy and Health Sciences, has been placed at IDO as a Media and Marketing Intern. Combining her scientific background with emerging skills in communication, she supports the organization’s media and marketing efforts by creating digital content, managing social media platforms, and assisting with outreach campaigns. This role allows her to bridge her knowledge of health sciences with practical experience in marketing, enhancing her versatility and professional growth in a dynamic environment.
The session concluded with UNHCR Implementing Partners sharing their expectations and welcoming the refugee interns. Closing remarks were delivered by Mr. Haider Zaman, Assistant Protection Officer at UNHCR.
